The Department of Public
Works is the work force and mainstay for the County Commissioners. In case of disaster,
emergency, or for special projects, the Department of Public Works keeps
available, and at the Commissioners' disposal, a force of labor and equipment to
serve the needs of Beaver County.
Public Works is ordinarily
responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of all county buildings, parks,
roads, bridges, properties and the repair, inspection and maintenance of the
county fleet of vehicles and equipment. Public Works also provides
light to heavy construction and remodeling in the county parks, courthouse,
airport, ice arena, satellite buildings and county roads and bridges.
The rodent control office, a
free service to the county, is also a role of Public Works. Another function of Public
Works is to maintain a county garage and warehouse (21,000 square feet) for its
operation and general storage of equipment and wares. The office of Waste
Management is maintained within the Public Works builiding.
