Prothonotary - FAQ
How do I obtain a certified copy of my divorce decree?
In order to get a certified copy of a Divorce Decree you can either request in person, by the mail or on the phone.
To request the Decree by mail you would need to have a letter stating the names, case number (if you have it) and that you are requesting a certified copy. Along with the letter, a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check or money order, made payable to “Jodi Jones, Prothonotary”, for $6.00. If the divorce was before 1995, there is a $10.00 search fee, in addition.
If you do not need your copy certified and it is prior to 1995, then there would just be a $10.00 fee. If it is after 1995 and you do not a certified copy then there would be no fee.
If you would like to pay with credit card over the phone, you can call and my staff will look that information up for you and send it through the mail. If you chose to pay with card there will be a postage charge and convenience fee. Our office number is 724-770-4570.
Can your staff provide legal advice?
Unfortunately, we are filing clerks, not attorneys. We cannot help give legal advice, but there are people we can. We recommend reaching out to the Beaver County Bar Association to connect you with an attorney. Here is a link to their lawyer referral service:
